Ariana Grande keeps fans cozy with ‘Christmas & Chill’ EP

It’s that time of year again for families to come together, feast on holiday meals, exchange gifts, and volunteer in the community—all while listening to the best holiday tunes. In my family, the holidays are not complete without playing the classic Jackson 5 Christmas album. Although hearing a young Michael Jackson’s voice is timeless, it’s always refreshing to hear new artists drop holiday tunes of their own.

Pop princess Ariana Grande did just that with her latest EP release, Christmas & Chill. Typically, artists make covers of classic holiday jams, however Grande’s project is a 6-track sultry session of her own original songs. Utilizing the popular “Netflix and chill” theme, the young singer blends the perfect sounds of pop and R&B to express her feelings on spending the holidays with her bae.

One of the standout tracks is “Wit It This Christmas,” in which Grande emphatically stresses she doesn’t need anything for Christmas, as long she’s with the one she loves. “Come and kiss me baby / We don’t need no mistletoe / We don’t need no fireplace / Boy, I’ll keep you nice and warm.”

“True Love” is another memorable tune as Grande samples the popular “12 Days of Christmas” carol, but she puts a love spin on it. “On the fifth day of Christmas / You asked me what’s on my wishlist / And I told you all I wanted was forever with my boo / After six days in your arms / I got that tattoo on my heart.” It’s the type of song that makes you want to be in love during the holidays.

This holiday EP is not the typical “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” type of songs, but the type of album any loving couple should play during the season.
