Making Culture Pop: ComplexCon is the Next Wave!
Complex is known as being a go-to source for all things pop culture, whether it’s fashion, sports, music, and news, it’s a one-stop shop to see what’s poppin in the entertainment world! Well, Complex took over Long Beach this past weekend and brought its website to life with its first convention, properly titled ComplexCon. The 2-day conference and festival was filled with shops, exhibits, panel discussions, and performances. Basically, the entire Internet gathered all in one space, so whether you’re a sneakerhead, sports fanatic, music connoisseur, or an activist, the LBC was the place to be! It was an outlet for attendees to get their hands on exclusive merchandise, receive wise words from influencers in different industries, and see some of their favorite artists rock out on stage!
Not only did fans get to see performances from up-and-coming stars like Khalid, Lil Yachty, Smino, and Metro Boomin, but also show-stopping shows from headliners including Kid Cudi, Travis Scott, Skrillex, and Snoop Dogg.
Yes, the performances were a must-see, but what stood out to me the most was the star-studded panels. Everything from Ice Cube and Tony Hawk giving keys to keeping longevity, to Jesse Williams and Angie Martinez speaking on the language in a new digital age. Or perhaps you wanted to hear The Game and Wiz Khalifa talk about the business with weed, or producers like Timbaland, Mike Will Made It, and DJ Mustard discuss stories behind some of their biggest hit records. Like I mentioned, there was a panel for everyone! However, my favorite panel was the live taping of Pharrell and Scott Vener’s OTHERTone Beats 1 radio show in which they interviewed Snoop Dogg. Just listening to two of my favorite artists discuss their history of working together and praising each other for their craft showed me that authenticity and staying true to yourself can make you win more.
