Artist Spotlight: Netta Brielle
Over the past few years, artists hailing from the Bay Area have continuously made waves in the music industry. Oakland native Netta Brielle may not be a household name just yet, but she’s well on her way as she continues to create her own lane with a unique sound.
I was first introduced to Netta Brielle’s music back in 2013 from attending local shows and hearing her name buzzing around town. That same year, she released her Will You Go With Me EP, a mixtape that infused 90s R&B with covers of Jade’s “Don’t Walk Away” and Mint Condition’s “Breakin’ My Heart” along with a few of her own original songs. I then saw her perform live at 106 KMEL’s Holiday House of Soul, alongside artists such as Adrian Marcel, Seven Streeter, Jeremih, and Mario.
She surfaced back onto the scene earlier this year when she released “3xKrazy” alongside IAMSU. Now she’s back with her latest EP, 580, a proper title as an ode to her hometown of Oakland, Calif. (580 is a popular highway that travels across Oakland and the San Francisco Bay Area). The nine-track album shows Brielle’s growth as an artist while also staying authentic to her sound. She discusses her hopes and dreams from childhood, to falling in love, and dealing with relationships.
One of the standout tracks and her latest single is “I Just Wanna Be Loved.” The Traxamillion-produced track is the perfect anthem especially for women who long to find the love of their life. “Sometimes I wonder if there’s love out there for me / Or maybe it ain’t meant for me / Sometimes I.. I’m afraid I’ll be alone forever / I just wanna be loved.”
Brielle recently dropped the visual and it’s the perfect blend of showing the young singer watching classic love films such as Love Jones and Boomerang, to coming across a young couple showing affection to one another.
So what’s the melody behind 580? It’s a work of art for the dreamers and the lovers that shows Netta Brielle is a force to be reckoned with in the R&B world.
