What Dreams May Come Tour Review
Hip-Hop made a major statement during the summer by dropping successful albums such as J. Cole’s Born Sinner and Wale’s The Gifted. Roc Nation’s own J. Cole embarked on his worldwide What Dreams May Come Tour and gave Bay Area fans an early Halloween treat. Cole brought his tour to the city by the bay in late October at The Warfield. As fans stood in line before theater staff opened doors, many fans were in shock to find out about Cole’s fellow tour mate, Wale, would not be performing that evening. Although fans were left confused, the news didn’t hinder them from seeing the Born Sinner rapper. What Dreams May Come opened up with Cole’s Dreamville label artist, Bas. He brought a New York flair to his style as he performed songs from his mixtape, Quarter Water Raised Me Vol. II. Cole then gave the fans what they had been waiting on. Supporting Cole was an amazing band and background singers as he performed most songs from the Born Sinner and Sideline Story albums, but also took a trip down memory lane with songs from Friday Night Lights and The Warm Up mixtapes. He also had different skits and digital videos playing in between songs. Opening act Bas came back out to perform a couple songs that he and Cole are on together. Cole held a meet-and-greet before the show, signed a few autographs at the end, and portions of the ticket sales helped benefit his charity, the Dreamville Foundation. Cole’s melody is leaving his fans with a dream story told to reiterate how he will continue to thrive in the hip-hop industry.
